Congratulations, Sarah! AmaTerra Staffer, Sarah Fowlkes, Receives Service Award from SAME
On January 19th, AmaTerra’s Marketing Coordinator, Sarah Fowlkes was honored to receive the Society of American Engineers’ (SAME) Regional Vice President’s (RVP) Merit Award for Outstanding Service and Excellence in the San Antonio Post. Sarah has been working with SAME’s San Antonio Post for six years, five of those years serving as the post's Secretary. She currently is the post’s Small Business Coordinator who is overseeing their annual Small Business Conference.
We are so proud of you, Sarah! It’s great to see you recognized for the years of hard work and service you have dedicated to this fantastic organization.
What is SAME?
The Society of American Military Engineers, or SAME - pronounced like the nickname, “Sammy” - is an engineering-oriented professional organization focused on the United States’ national security and defense infrastructure. SAME’s members include active-duty military and private-sector personnel who specialize in architecture, engineering, construction – commonly called “A/E/C” – as well as environmental management, cybersecurity, and other disciplines. SAME promotes leadership development in engineering and A/E/C industry-government engagement.
SAME is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia with 100 worldwide chapters – they call them “posts” - one of which is in San Antonio, Texas. With the City of San Antonio trademarking itself as Military City, U.S.A., it stands to reason that San Antonio’s Post would be a significant one. SAME’s San Antonio Post covers much of Central and South Texas, from Austin down to the Valley.
AmaTerra in San Antonio - Working Closely with SAME’s San Antonio Post
AmaTerra has worked closely with SAME’s San Antonio Post for many years; a natural result of our extensive history of providing cultural and environmental compliance services for the Department of Defense and our close connection with the Alamo City. Not only do we have a San Antonio Office, Jill was born and raised there!
In recent years, AmaTerra’s staff have been privileged to conduct historical landscape research at the city's Historic Missions - UNESCO World Heritage Site-designated Missions, by the way - and have recorded extensive archeological resources at Stinson Municipal Airport, one of America's earliest flying schools, a World War II pilot training facility, and the oldest continuously-operating municipal airport west of the Mississippi River.
We'd really like to find a way to document the "World's Largest Boots" at North Star Mall! At 42 years of age, those giant kicks are nearly historic-aged!
